Hi guys, my deck list has been updated for Empire at War. I've previously won three local tournaments, as well as the MK Store Championship. Each time, I've used a variation of this deck. I thought I'd share my latest idea and explain my reasons for some of my inclusions, as well as answer any questions you might have. =)

Characters

I'm running eKanan / Rey / Padawan. My plan was to go back to eRey and two Padawans, but as their point total added up to 28. I began looking for a replacement for one Padawan that cost 10 points, to round up the point total to 30, and that's when I stumbled across Kanan Jarrus - Rebel Jedi. I soon realised that I could run a second dice for Kanan Jarrus - Rebel Jedi, if only I dropped one of Rey - Force Prodigy's dice. I began comparing the dice, arriving at the conclusion that Kanan Jarrus - Rebel Jedi's dice were slightly better. After all, Rey - Force Prodigy isn't good because of her dice, she's good because of her effect, and her effect is still just as potent with a single dice. However, the deciding factor was Kanan Jarrus - Rebel Jedi's resolve cheat effect, which doubles in potency with a second dice, so, that settled it - eKanan / Rey / Padawan.

Battlefield

The battlefield choice was the easiest I've ever had to make. My rule of thumb is that battlefields should always benefit you more than they can benefit your opponent. Obi-Wan's Hut - Tatooine gives one free shield to a blue character. If the character is not blue, then they have to pay a resource for it. As this deck is mono blue, I'll always get the shield for free. For my opponent to even have a chance of benefiting equally they also need to be blue. Even if they are blue, they need to have a faster deck than mine, which is very unlikely, as Rey - Force Prodigy action cheats and Kanan Jarrus - Rebel Jedi resolve cheats. Suffice it to say that it's very unlikely that Obi-Wan's Hut - Tatooine can be effectively used against me.

Events

Caution, Deflect, Guard and Overconfidence consistently show up in deck lists, so I won't cover these right now. With Kanan Jarrus - Rebel Jedi adding ranged sides to my arsenal, Force Misdirection can also flush ranged pools, as well as consistently flush melee pools. Destiny is there to turn dead dice into resources, to rush out upgrades and build tempo as early as possible. Clash is just as good as Use The Force but if you're against a melee deck its value doubles. Sound The Alarm is too efficient not to include. In the best case scenarios, you'll mitigate over ten damage for free. Trust The Force is at least a free re-roll. But if you're against a blue deck, it's a free re-roll and mass-control card all in one.

Upgrades

Ancient Lightsaber, Makashi Training, Rey's Lightsaber and Vibroknife consistently show up in deck lists, so I won't cover these right now. I'm using Luke Skywalker's Lightsaber because its sides are just great. I can play it round one on Padawan and it adds a lot of consistent power to my dice pool from the get-go. I'm using Shoto Lightsaber because it's cheap, its sides are nice and the passive really does add up as the game goes on. In an upgrade-focused deck like this, it's not difficult to meet Shoto Lightsaber's requirements. I can meet them from round one, if I draw it with Destiny and another weapon.

Thanks for reading, and if you have any questions, just ask. =)

Interested. But surprised by lack of Force Illusion, Force Speed, Lightsaber Pull, and Flank

If I'm honest, I'm not a fan of Force Illusion. In the best case scenario, it's only going to mitigate about 3 damage. It's also very obvious, as it's an upgrade, so the opponent can play around it. I feel this is only good in a deck where the aim is to keep a single character alive, such as eMace.

Lightsaber Pull is just too slow in my opinion. If it had ambush, I'd include it, but as it stands, I don't feel that spending an action searching for a weapon that I can draw in the upkeep phase isn't really worth the deck slots.

Flank is a good card, and it was definitely considered, but I felt that it was simply overshadowed by the other control cards in the deck. Paying 1 resource to remove 1 dice on the condition that I have more ready characters than the opponent just isn't that impactful.

Force Speed is probably the closest card to being included in the deck. My reason for removing it was that by itself Force Speed doesn't really achieve anything. It simply adds a little more speed to an already-fast deck. It does cost 0, which I like, and because of Rey - Force Prodigy's effect, it doesn't take an action to play it, but it takes up 2 slots that could be saved for damage or control. However, it's very likely that I'll give Force Speed a second pass at some point. =)

Have you played against new kylo with this list?

Setzuen 445

@aesopsphere I faced the new Kylo Ren - Tormented One in my most recent tournament. He was running eKylo / eUnkar. He was unlucky with his rolls, but I did win pretty convincingly. I focused Kylo Ren - Tormented One as mine is a mono blue deck that almost guarantees that his ability hits, and I killed him by round 3 (I think). Because my deck shields up nicely, I blocked a fair bit of Kylo Ren - Tormented One's effect, while controlling any 2 damage dice he rolled. After Kylo Ren - Tormented One died, Unkar Plutt - Junk Dealer was just bait.

No Rend?

One more question, given the amount of ThrawnKar and Cad/Phasma decks I'm likely to see (and have been seeing at my league), on top of the odd Kylo/X, do you think Trust the Force and Clash might be too situational as control/mitigation cards?

If so, what would you put in their place, expecting to see more of the other decks? Voices Cry Out seems reasonable given the number dice sides those decks will have, and aim to resolve that have values of 2 or more? Would you consider adding flank back in? Thanks so much!

Setzuen 445

@Rassilon5x5 I personally don't like Rend. I find it very situational, and often a dead draw, as 0 cost supports and upgrades are very rare, and even if they are run, they're usually not very good anyway.

Thrawn - Master Strategist decks aren't threatening at all from my experience. I've faced a few, and I seem to just cut through them like hot butter. I'm at a loss for what Thrawn - Master Strategist decks are trying to do. I struggled a little against Cad Bane - Vicious Mercenary, but my shield generation soaked up enough for Rey - Force Prodigy and Kanan Jarrus - Rebel Jedi to 6 upgrade stomp him.

Trust The Force is definitely expendable, due to it only being effective against other blue decks. The main reason for including it is that if you are against a blue deck, you get an insane amount of control for 0 cost. Flank is still a good card, although I'm still on the fence as to whether removing 1 dice is worth 1 resource, but it's another grey card to throw off Kylo Ren - Tormented One, so if you were going to replace Trust The Force, Flank is a good replacement.

I definitely wouldn't remove Clash. I'd argue that with eFN/eKylo, eVadar and Emo Kids still running around, that melee is more common than ranged. It's so game-changing in melee match ups that it's pretty much essential. If you're not against a melee opponent, then simply discard it for a re-roll. You can't include cards that work for every match up, as they tend to be weaker cards. Sure, Flank and High Ground are versatile, but 1 resource to remove 1 dice isn't too great.

0 Cost supports and upgrades are not very good?

Some of these cards are some of the best in the game. Not saying you should include Rend but it's definitely a great card that can punish decks that depend on these really insanely good 0 cost upgrades.

I like the deck though, I may run it.

Chance Cube, Luke's Protection and Running Interference are bad, so my original comment still stands against them. Fast Hands isn't particularly great after the errata. It's a mini FN-2199 - Loyal Trooper effect for only yellows, and even FN-2199 - Loyal Trooper is average, let alone a budget version of him. Force Speed and Sith Holocron are both good cards (although I'd debate that Sith Holocron still lacks non-weapon upgrade targets to make it consistent). Regardless, a handful of mediocre-to-good targets aren't reason enough to run what will often be a dead draw. No single deck will run more than 2 cards on this list, so I'd be holding on to a Rend for however long it takes my opponent to (maybe) drop one of these cards.

The deck is fun though, and fast. I won another local tournament this weekend, too. =)

I love this character combination. My version is a bit different. My goal is to get as many dice on the table as quickly as possible so I run 2 copies of It Binds All Things and 2 copies of Reaping The Crystal. I also throw in 2 Lightsaber for the redeploy and other expensive upgrades like Handcrafted Light Bow, One With The Force, and Master of the Council.

Add in Funeral Pyre to move upgrades around that don't have redeploy, and Cargo Hold - Eravana and you can get dice out there early, keep them when characters die and basically overwhelm your opponent with multiple characters with 2-3 upgrades each.

There's nothing sweeter than a first turn It Binds, into Reaping the Crystal into a Rey's LightSaber on the Padawan for free. :)
