I've been trying to make Baze Malbus - Crack Shot work since Spirit of Rebellion dropped. I paired him with Chewbacca - Loyal Friend for a long time due to the extra health, killer special and access to yellow, but at the time of SoR the deck just lacked the cards it needed to be consistent. I wanted to give it another shot now that EaW is out and we have more removal options and Running Interference, but then I realized how great of a pair Baze got in the 2 Player Starter with Poe Dameron - More Than A Pilot.

Poe is arguably one of the most consistent characters in the game right now. No pay sides, no modifiers, two focus sides (including a 2 focus) and 11 health for a respectable 11 point single die! Perfect pairing for a mono-red It's a Trap deck.

So here is my attempt at a solid Baze deck. This deck is still very early in testing but it shows a lot of promise. The main attraction of the deck is it has so many synergies in various combinations.

Obviously, It's a Trap! is a key card for the deck, comboing with nearly all the dice in your deck and Hit and Run to provide instantaneous and non-mitigable damage. Overkill is a huge amount of damage for 2 resources and is one of the best IAT targets.

You've got a range of weapons and abilities with strong damage sides. Poe Dameron's Blaster is a really strong 2 cost with 3 damage sides and no pay sides, which is rare on a ranged weapon like this. Sure there are plenty of modified sides, but that's where Poe's focuses and C-3PO come in. These focusing abilities also come in handy for making sweet bank with Chance Cube so you can pay for all this nonsense.

In addition to Chance Cube, you've got Logistics and the woefully underplayed Rearm, which is a fantastic card for the rounds where you aren't claiming. Resolve some resource sides and use Rearm to ramp up into a Natural Pilot for half the price to start the next round with.

Speaking of claiming, even though you CAN play slow, this deck wants to claim as often as possible. Defensive Position is one the best blowout removal cards in the game. Docking Bay - Finalizer has incredible synergy with Honor Guard, giving you a solid damage die removal for free every turn, or helping you ramp into that Y-Wing you discarded to reroll earlier in the turn. Y-Wing of course is a huge threat, especially when you can activate it twice a round with Natural Pilot.

To fill out the slots you've got Sound The Alarm for a free "oh shit!" button and Defiance, a card that sounds super good on paper and I'm a little concerned about actually being viable. Baze has plenty of great sides you wouldn't mind this hitting and if there is one thing I've learned about Baze from playing him for so long is that you are going to be rerolling his dice a lot. Might as well get healed for doing so right?

Some notable omissions are Wingman to help resolve and claim that much quicker, and provide more power plays with Hit & Run. Also there is a severe lack of Redeploy in the deck which can be a problem if they focus down your heavy hitter. If you do want to speed up the deck a bit, I would swap out the Y-Wing and Defiance for Dug in and perhaps a solid 3 cost red weapon to help you against Imperial Inspection. Also, this deck is super weak to Kylo Ren - Tormented One as his ability and Deflect will ruin your life.

Anyway, more testing coming in the future and some changes are likely, but I wanted to see what y'all think and how it can be improved. Suggestions are more than welcome!
