The thought process behind this deck is a little too long to explain, but in short, I just wanted to make my favorite character viable for competitive play. I hope to explore Darth Vader - Terror To Behold more, but at the moment, playing a Backup Muscle and Lightsaber Throw seems better than playing an Ancient Lightsaber.

Cards
- Fear and Dead Men - MVP of the deck. I'm not sure I would've won 3 wide matchups if it weren't for this card. And I almost took it out 2 hours before the tournament.
- Greedo - Unlucky Mercenary - Damage and resource denial, what a wonderful combo. Did not expect him to contribute as much as he did.

I think Vader Saber seems worth playing and I'm surprised there wasn't Hidden Motive. Congrats either way and I like the deck. What cards underperformed for you? |
I'm glad you like the deck.
It also can't save you from god rolls, and if you miss the symbol, the die will simply be re-rolled while your hand size reduced. You will use Vader's Power Action at least once per turn which leaves you with 4 cards. And those 4 should ideally contain 2 offensive and 2 defensive cards, so those removals better be good. And this is not even counting your need to re-roll after you get a and 2 (which happens quite often actually).
Your opponent has a hard choice: make Vader a 17HP character, or give him Profitable Connection. Furthermore, if your opponent claims Outer Rim Outpost - Nal Hutta he gets a resource immediately, but if he claims Theed Royal Palace - Naboo he must sacrifice his tempo to use the Power Action.
Another factor could be the the fact that I've mostly slotted win-win cards, e.g. Conflicted, Backup Muscle. Rise Again can also be a win-win card, because if Vader rolls damage you win, if he rolls resources you win again. |
Thank you for the breakdown. I didn't realized that Theed Royal Palace used a Power Action instead of a claim ability. That makes this battlefield even in my eyes, particularly if you pick your own for round 1. |
I have a Vader/Greedo deck (https://swdestinydb.com/decklist/view/24896/fearanddeadgreedos3-1storetourney-1.0), but I felt like I needed a bunch of weapons to do more damage, and a bunch of money cards to pay for them. I had been considering cards like Conflicted, Lightsaber Throw, and Rise Again, but didn't have space (or resources for that last one). Looking at your version is making me consider going much lighter on the weapons, which would let me squeeze in lots of those cards like you did. Have you considered Déjà Vu? With that many events, being able to repeat some of them would be nice, especially on freebies like Doubt and Friends in Low Places. It also makes Hidden Motive more reliable, and you could do the damage twice on Lightsaber Throw, or play Conflicted twice in a row. Or just any removal card, really. |
This deck lookis very nice :) However I have few general questions: 1/ What is your strategy? Always begins with Vader roll? 2/ Why only 1x price of failure? Seems to be the crucial card 3/ What is the strategy behind 2x dark counsel? IMO deck is concentrated around keep Vader alive as long as possible and for example - torment / ancient lightsaber seems to be the better option ;) 4/ Why you choose to play 2x force speed? Vader will handle mitigation thanks to his power action so you don't have to generate multiple actions to avoid these kind of cards. I would run instead some other mitigation or some resource gain. |

1) Depends on the deck I'm facing. Generally, I would start with Greedo - Unlucky Mercenary. If he rolls 2 or 1 I will resolve it, otherwise I will use it for He Doesn't Like You. If I draw into Fear and Dead Men + Bait and Switch I will roll Vader as soon as possible before I get 'd. Against red heroes, I would roll him as soon as possible because of Suppressive Fire. 2) In the age of indirect damage, The Price of Failure basically reads: "Deal 7 indirect damage to yourself to ready a character". I prefer to use it mid/late game, and it always seems to come at the right time. I would probably slot in 2, if I was running Vader with upgrades. Also, don't forget about Coercion. 3) You get 's and it creates great pressure combined with a Force Speed . It gives you resources and refills your hand. Furthermore, you can use it for a He Doesn't Like You when Greedo - Unlucky Mercenary's die is not available. All of that for the cost of 1. 4) Kylo / Pryce will Hidden Motive your die. Then you will Power Action and get The Best Defense...'d. At that point, your round is over. But, if you Force Speed you can roll back in, and possibly smash for 8. Other die sides provide similar benefit as 3). Also a must card against mill. |
Great deck; what do you think of Hate and Bloodlust. I play hate on greedo. I think it is useful before price of failure. It does some damage and as it has the redeploy keyword, can go to Vader (can be overwrite with force illusion). I think bloodlust is awesome too because you can play it after sending the dices. For instance, if the dices of Vader do not show pay side, you can play bloodlust to make more damage. 2 bloodlust on Vader is so powerful and the better is that the opponent cannot mitigate the dices because bloodlust come without dices. I have done it many times : hate on greedo, price of failure greedo, hate on Vader, play dices, overwrite hate with bloodlust. What do you think about it ? |
